San Giovanni Rotondo: home of Padre Pio...





The modern church you see here was constructed in 1959. For the last nine years of Padre Pio's life he prayed inside of this church. Some have seen the old VHS of his last Holy Mass celebrated here on Sept. 22, 1968, in the Extraordinary Form.
On the left of the new church is the old church. Padre Pio was in the choir loft of the old church when he received the stigmata in 1918. The five wounds remained open, fresh and bleeding for fifty years.
