Pius XII: his telephone (Qui parla Pacelli!)...

In 1930 the Vatican got telephones. This ought to be part of a permanent exhibit in the Vatican Museums, but can be now seen in the free exhibition in the Braccio di Carlo Magno off St. Peter's Square.
N.B. While you speak with a Pope on the telephone the protocol is to kneel.

With respect, protocol under Pius XII may have to been to recieve/make calls to the Pontiff on ones knees but it did not survive him. Disagree or agree with that but it is NOT present protocol to so do.
