Catholic custom: rugs in church (not carpet!)...
The science of sounds is a concept that even a child can understand. But yet many of our pastors still don't get it and if there is carpet in your parish church then approach your pastor and ask him to have it removed.
This is because carpet eats sound and is not acoustical (it does not serve to aid hearing!)!
Rome and Italian parishes often have rugs, which are not the same as carpet. These rugs are often of the highest artistic quality and are sometimes very old. In the photo is a rug as seen in the FSSP parish in Rome (from 1857). The rug is not seen during times such as Lent and Advent, but adds great color and decor for solemn festivities.
