Catholic custom: the outside drapes for big events...
This is a nice custom still seen here and there all over Italy. For some big events drapes are put up on the outside main entrance in this or a similar manner. Damask or velvet, etc. Adds a nice touch and the extras count.

there's an added incentive too: for big events, it can help the unfamiliar traveller work out where to go in!
