American Missioners of the Precious Blood...

With final profession the cleric is handed a blessed crucifix which he proudly wears as a part of his habit. He carries this cross in his sash and even holds it in his hands as he preaches. In the end, he is buried with it in honor: http://www.mission-preciousblood.org/

A wonderful form of habit, but if you look at their USA website most of the Fathers seem to choose to minister in short sleeved open necked checked sports shirts, and at Mass they wear the modern poncho in man made fibre. Between the Roman picture and the American reality there seems to be a sad gulf.

On my day off I can be seen in an open necked polo shirt, black with a small cross. Every day at the parish I am seen in a Roman Collar, although my 70 year old associate only wears his on Sunday. The Vestments are made by Holy Rood Guild, a Trappist Monastery in Massachusetts. I wear the Cassock, Cross, and chain for special events. It was a special event that morning in Rome, July 18, when I celebrated Mass at St. Peter. My parish is also part of the American Reality, the Ordinary Form is celebrated with reverence. Each Sunday with Servers and Deacon and Choir the entire Mass is chanted and the proper Introit Offertorio and Communio are chanted from the Graduale Romanum. Hey, John Paul, I have the picture you took with my camera on my blog.
