Franciscans of the Immacolata Ordinations...

This church building we were told is about 700-800 years old. Just imagine that many years of Masses celebrated within these hallowed walls!

Just out of curiosity--what is the reasoning for having this be a Pontifical Mass at the Throne rather than at the faldstool? I was under the impression that Masses at the throne were only for bishops in their home dioceses/Cardinals anywhere but Rome/archbishops in their territories/Papal representatives in their territories. I'm not trying to have a "gotcha!" moment or anything, I'm genuinely interested. It looked like a beautiful ceremony; thank God for holy priests like these fellows!

Many thanks for all the magnificent photos, John.
Is this the same order that "staffs" the Shrine of Our Lady of Guadalupe in LaCrosse, WI?

To Johnny Domer

In the diocese of Rome, it is customary for any bishop to celebrate at the faldstool, out of respect for the local (and universal) Bishop.
I don't know if Tarquinia is within the diocese of Rome but the rule may also apply to the so-called suburbican dioceses.

The bishops enumerated above are "greater prelates" who enjoy the use of a throne by right. However, a diocesan bishop can grant the use of a throne within his diocese to any bishop, other than one of his own auxiliaries or a bishop who is a member of his cathedral chapter. Presumably, therefore, the local ordinary had given permission for Archbishop Burke to pontificate from the throne for this occasion.
