Roman tailors: to make a clerical hat...


Between Santa Maria Sopra Minerva and the old Collegio Romano is the firm of tailors, Barbiconi. At Barbiconi they actually still make hats for papal knights, clerics, etc.
I took this photo there while the kid/employee explained to me that this object is the oldest item in their store! You turn the wheel at the base to expand or contract the silver-looking part so as to fit the hat to the size of the mold as you create it.
