John, that still happens, at least in the German province. Here is a picture from last Friday: http://picasaweb.google.de/passionisten/EinkleidungBrIsidorUndBrMatthias1Mai2009?authkey=Gv1sRgCPzU16nFncid4gE&feat=embedwebsite#5332044947239123682

I seem to remember them wearing a large crucifix in their belt when I was a kid in the 60's.

The Passionists in the Philippines receives a crown of thorns in their profession, and they will wear it again at their death bed.

aparemtly thr belt Crucifix is no more because it is considered offensive to moslims.

The nuns still wear it all at profession: crown of thorns, passion sign, ring, black veil, crucifix, and large cross on their shoulders. Deo gratias!
