Cerveteri: how to spot an Etruscan tomb...


Etruscan tombs like this can be seen along the coast northwest of Rome. They always built their tombs up from the shoreline and this is what they look like (from the air one can spot them easily, they say). The Etruscans cremated their dead and placed them deep in the inside of tombs such as this or of other designs (as seen in Tarquinia, further up the coast).
