Tiara of Pope Pius XI...


In 1922 this tiara was created for the newly elected Pope Pius XI. It was donated by the people of Desio, where he was born (near Milan). It's the good old days that some of us mancare.

You know, sometimes I seriously think that all us trads from the blogosphere should chip in and make the Holy Father a tiara, and present it to him on the 60th anniversary of his ordination. Am I the only one?

John Paul II did receive a newly made tiara from Hungary in 1981, only he never wore it.

The Hungarians made one for John Paul II, but I don't think it ever made it's way onto his head. Something tells me that with Benedict...it may be different.

Pope John Paul II was actually offered a papa tiara during is pontificate in the 80's I believe.

I believe it should be worn again, the tiara, and if one was received from Hungary as a gift it should not be kept in a closet, or glass case somewhere. In fact it should be the first to be worn again after so long an absence. The Vatican should issue a statement about its' truth and symbolism to the Papacy, and then go ahead and put it on. There must be some functions or times when it could be used. Why must it be never, or once every 40 years or so. It is missed by many, many Catholics who cross the globe...

Can't see the Holy Father donning a tiara somehow.
