Pantheon Rose Petals on Pentecost (Whit Sunday)

May 31, 2009: rose petals rain through the open oculus of Rome's Pantheon (the Basilica of Sancta Maria ad Martyres) during their annual celebration on the Solemnity of Pentecost while the Veni Sancte Spiritus is chanted.

Thank you for this post John. I have used one of your stills as my desktop background; I like the geometry of the interior.

One question about the video clip, why is it so noisy in there? Do modern tourists have no respect for anything?

When the petals drop the crowd gets excited and begins to marvel and exclaim how lovely it is...

It's just amazing. I'll bethere this sunday, but since I see that you are so well "connected" and since this is the only time in the year that there will be something to climb to the oculus, don't you know if it will be possible to go up there with some kind of permission? (of course before of after the Holy Mass when one must be inside being marveled) I'd like to take what I think will be the most beautiful picture of the mos beautiful place in Rome.

Thanks, Blessings.
