Lord Reverend Cardinal of the Holy Roman Church...

In the moral influence that a chosen city can exercise on genius, Rome is supreme. It is not just a city, but a world. Where else can you be walking down main street (Via del Corso), only to see this splendor spilling out of a hulking church in the rain? Rome is our communis patria (fatherland common to all sons and daughters of the West). Rome is the common birthplace of every child of Western civilization. The daily life of everyone reared in the West is permeated with the life of Christian Rome.
