The Ara Pacis is now open again for tourists. It had been closed for some years as they had torn down the former building that Mussolini had built over it and now they have constructed a new building that makes the Mussolini one look great.
I agree. The architect who designed it, American Richard Meier, spent all of two days in Rome in order to conceive the project. This is an architect whose architecture is known for its lack of reference to urban context. Yes to contemporary architecture, no to clapped out Eighties neo-Modernism.

The strange thing is that they completed the restoration circa 2000 and then tore it down. ??
