What a "precious miter" looks like...


Renaissance miter: simply glorious.

A pity we don't see them much anymore.

Right off the head of Aaron the high priest and his successors in that office (Ex. 29:6-9; 39:26, 30; Lev. 8:13).

And its always nice to see the two fanons on the back with the embroidered episcopal coat-of-arms.

There are plenty of photographs of Benedict XVI wearing precious mitres - ones that were worn by Pius IX, Benedict XV and many of the popes that followed. Benedict XVI has even worn the precious mitre that is represented in the superb memorial statue of Pius XII within St Peter's Basilica (by Francesco Messina,1964). See both at the following link:

Thanks for posting these photographs of our blessed pope John Paul II. Do you know where I can get more photos of the pope wearing this mitre (specially in colour one)?

If you're in Rome look at photo archives from October of 1978 from Felici or L'Osservatore and that's where I found this nice pic...
