What the hood of a cappa magna looks like...


Only when in a penitential act is the hood of the cappa magna placed over the head of the prelate in this manner.

Probably the first time a real photo of a bishop wearing this has been seen in Italy (or the Vatican), in 40+ years.

Is it a real bishop or is it some kind of 'rievocazione'? The five o'clock shadow on chin and upper lip are kind of strange...

I don't think that is a real Bishop. He has a bear and looks very young. Also, the hood is on - Bishops don't do that anymore.

The photo had to be staged as there is not a prelate on the planet earth today (sadly) who would make this public act of penance in his (or someone elses) cappa magna (let alone in broad daylight or near anybody with a camera).
