It's election year and all Christians are reminded to vote pro-life.
Catholics, know Canon 1398 from the Codex (Code of Canon Law):
"Qui abortum procurat, effectu secuto, in excommunicationem latae sententiae incurrit."
"A person who procures a successful abortion incurs an automatic (latae sententiae) excommunication."

You should, however, distinguish that one is excommunicated for having an abortion and NOT for voting for a pro-abortion candidate. As well, voting pro-Life means not supporting those who would slaughter millions in an unjust war.
It is necessary to weigh all the issues when voting. Thus, the United States Catholic Conference of Bishops' document "Faithful Citizenship" should be read by all American Catholics before going to the poll:

Ultimately, the Catholic voter should be guided by his informed conscience. The "shut up and vote Republican" attitude of the past no longer holds water.

Vote for Alan Keyes
"Vote for Alan Keyes"
No, vote for Bob Barr. He has a better chance of getting on the ballot of all fifty states. ~Al
