Carriage of Pius IX...

Well done JP. Another scoop. The Carriage hall has never been open when I've been to visit in the past. One correction I'd add is that though most probably Pius IX used this carriage, the Arms on it are of his predecessor Gregory XVI (1831-1846), as can be seen on the Tiara's lappet which hangs over the supporting putto's right arm.

Good eye, brother! It's the coolest thing to see this carriage, and all the harness equipment for each of the horses.

I read about this beautiful carriage. After the fall of Rome all that Pius IX could do with it was ride around in the Vatican gardens for hours on end.
