Then as now big posters are still used in Rome as well as all over the Italian peninsula to advertise liturgical events, etc. It's a great way to get the word out - just put the same big poster in the back of every big church.
What's nice here, though, is the old school "Romani!" which one doesn't see much anymore on the Rome posters.
