Port of Rome: Civitavecchia...


This is the tomb of the last commander of the papal fleet. I sometimes pray before his tomb in the Church of the Virgin when I'm at the porto di Roma. He was born here and leanred to sail in these waters off the beaches. May this mariner (as well as Blessed Pius IX) pray for us!

Wow! I didn't realize that the papal fleet lasted until the time of Pio Nono. Don't suppose you have any vexillological photos you could post for us?

None, but I do have some cool photos from the palace where Pius IX was born on the Adriatic Riviera that I'll soon post...
