Among Black Americans,, it is seen as a high inflammatory word.<BR/>If you ever saw the classic movie "Gone with the Wind", and caught the magnificent performance of the late Hattie McDaniel playing the steriotypical domineering Black maid in a Southern household with kerchief on her head....that is "a mammy".<BR/><BR/>"Momma" is the classic Italian.
