Another way might be to save your oldest posts as a google sites page and reclaim the space here on the blog.
If you really do stop blogging, know that I have enjoyed your posts immensely. But do continue. Yours is a unique contribution in the Catholic blogosphere.

Silly only with regards to your support for the nutjob right-wing lunatic bible thumping red-necked "christians" (Small "c") like Sarah Palin et al, but MAGNIFICENT when posting photos of traditional Catholicism, religious Orders of nuns and friars, and Papal ceremonies.
The comment I cut/pasted above from another "anonymous" was nasty.
I never meant to be nasty in my posts...just honest gut reactions to some ideas which I think are alittle too strident (like last year during the campaign).
You sounded like all those "evangelicals", which of course no good traditional Catholic would want to be mistaken for!!
Other than that, your blog with the photos and interesting news was the best of all Catholic blogs....especially the photos.
THank you for instilling pride in us for our Church, which so often is in need of a boost like you so often gave!!

ReplyDeleteJP! I got upset when I read the FINIS that it took me few days to grasp the matter, and respond to it!, I feel like I lost a friend. Even though I respect your decision, I dont agree with it, because I am selfish. Your post has provided us with some wonderful information, photos and ideas! It gave us hope about our faith. This is a critical point in the life of the post Vatican-II church. Under the current Pope, matters are beging to turn around,and a momentum is starting to build up. There are signs that the reform of the reform in the liturgy is starting to materialize. Sites like yours are valuable sources of information that would feed and shape the minds of young catholics who are completely oblivious of what has been lost in the past 40 years in the name of "renewal", and modernity. Do not underestimate of what you have done in the past years. We need you, and want you back!

ReplyDeleteNow, this post is (or should be) just slightly humorous. There are many good reasons to stop a blog - including personal reasons (a desire to move on, a change in family circumstances, burnout).
But it should be remembered that personal reasons are just that - personal. There is no requirement to share. Even though your followers think of you as a friend, the Internet *itself* only creates crippled friendships.
But, if the *only* reason is that you ran out of disk space - that's silly. Sort of like a writer coming to the end of the page, or a pen running out of ink. Reminds me of that scene in Forest Gump - Running across the plains, then just stops and walks home.

I know from experience that it's not always easy to get good photos, yet you seemed to come through with photos of excellent quality as well as information that only the Romans know. I always think of this blog as a modern version of Fr. Chandlery's classic "Pilgrim Walks in Rome".

Others are not so fortunate and so have not been able to visit the Eternal City - your blog has been their contact and connection with the hub of The Church.
I might add that this summer I was fortunate to be able to visit Northern Minnesota and loved the place and the people.
