FINIS: and that's all she wrote...

Brethren:

This blog, sadly, is just now at the end of its course.

There is simply no more storage room.

1013 MB (99%) of 1024 MB has been eaten up.

Hope everybody liked it.

But just remember: what was done was done for you.

Let us pray,

    Caro John,

    Ti aspettiamo!

Can you please set up Orbis Catholicvs 2 on Wordpress or Blogspot, or something??

This Orthodox lurker/reader enjoys your blog immensely :-)

  5. Can't you just create a new Google ID and start a new one? ISTR the Catholic Mom of 10 does that on a regular basis when she runs out of storage space...

This Blog Must Not Die, John. Do whatever it takes to let you keep blogging. :)

    John;
many thanks for a moving, fascinating, informative, occasionally infuriating, and always stimulating, blog.

I hope one day to meet you in person - preferably in Rome, of course - and to find you somewhere else in the blogosphere.

    Until then, many prayers.

What?!! Can't you remove some of the older posts, or open an Orbis Catholicus Part Deux blog or something? I cannot see the treasures of our common Catholic history on my own - without you and your Canon (or Minolta or Kodak) seeking them out for us!

No doubt this is a labor of love and your free time would increase severalfold without it; but if you're taking a vote, put me down for "keep going."

  15. How Sad! John, this has been such a wonderful blog, I'm so sorry to see it end. Thank you for the great favor of showing us Roman life. Looking at your blog has been a real Catholic treat.

    John,

Non est finis! Continue under another id with a new blog name as others have suggested. There are several blogs out there that have done this.

Another way might be to save your oldest posts as a google sites page and reclaim the space here on the blog.

If you really do stop blogging, know that I have enjoyed your posts immensely. But do continue. Yours is a unique contribution in the Catholic blogosphere.

Thanks and all the best whatever you decide.

"did you flunk out of your roman school??? come clean!!!

    your blog was silly.

    be honest!!!"

Silly only with regards to your support for the nutjob right-wing lunatic bible thumping red-necked "christians" (Small "c") like Sarah Palin et al, but MAGNIFICENT when posting photos of traditional Catholicism, religious Orders of nuns and friars, and Papal ceremonies.

The comment I cut/pasted above from another "anonymous" was nasty.
I never meant to be nasty in my posts...just honest gut reactions to some ideas which I think are alittle too strident (like last year during the campaign).

You sounded like all those "evangelicals", which of course no good traditional Catholic would want to be mistaken for!!

Other than that, your blog with the photos and interesting news was the best of all Catholic blogs....especially the photos.

THank you for instilling pride in us for our Church, which so often is in need of a boost like you so often gave!!

As I've already said, I shall be very sad not having the next instalment of OC to look forward to . . . but I think we need to remember that John is primarily in Rome as a student. It just might be that he needs more time for his studies ?

I'm sure he'll be back when he can : till when, let's just be grateful that he's out there somewhere, keeping the faith; and let's remember him in our prayers for what he's done so far.

No, you cant stop that. This is one big issue of evangelization on internet. I read about two blogs daily, that`s yours and NLM. And I just love to read your posts, cause they are very easygoing and not complicated. Please, dont stop. God bless you!

  51. JP! I got upset when I read the FINIS that it took me few days to grasp the matter, and respond to it!, I feel like I lost a friend. Even though I respect your decision, I dont agree with it, because I am selfish. Your post has provided us with some wonderful information, photos and ideas! It gave us hope about our faith. This is a critical point in the life of the post Vatican-II church. Under the current Pope, matters are beging to turn around, and a momentum is starting to build up. There are signs that the reform of the reform in the liturgy is starting to materialize. Sites like yours are valuable sources of information that would feed and shape the minds of young catholics who are completely oblivious of what has been lost in the past 40 years in the name of "renewal", and modernity. Do not underestimate of what you have done in the past years. We need you, and want you back!

    Truly yours

  55. oh well, and I just found you last week.

Now, this post is (or should be) just slightly humorous. There are many good reasons to stop a blog - including personal reasons (a desire to move on, a change in family circumstances, burnout).

But it should be remembered that personal reasons are just that - personal. There is no requirement to share. Even though your followers think of you as a friend, the Internet *itself* only creates crippled friendships.

But, if the *only* reason is that you ran out of disk space - that's silly. Sort of like a writer coming to the end of the page, or a pen running out of ink. Reminds me of that scene in Forest Gump - Running across the plains, then just stops and walks home.

    Take care.

I know from experience that it's not always easy to get good photos, yet you seemed to come through with photos of excellent quality as well as information that only the Romans know. As well, this blog presents Catholics all over the world with a paradigm for excellence when it comes to the externals of Holy Mother Church.
